Two US warships including USS Nimitz was moved out of Persian Gulf and conducted military exercises in the South China Sea.
This is seen as a clear signal to Xi Jinping by President Joe Biden that just like Donald Trump he will have tough approach to Beijing.
In a coordinated operation the two warships Theodore Roosevelt and Nimitz carried out exercises in a highly-trafficked area to demonstrate the US Navy’s ability to operate in challenging environments.
This action by US angered China and as per the statement issued by China the exercises is an effort by the US “to flex its muscles.
Earlier in July 2020 the US conducted dual-carrier operations in the South China Sea after Chinese Navy conducted military drills in the contested waters, provoking a sharp and worried reaction from its neighbours.
This US Navy exercises is seen as a reply to China after its multiple provocations over the past few weeks including flying nearly a dozen military aircraft over Taiwan Strait last month.
Last week China responded aggressively to the presence of USS John S. McCain and also claimed it was able to drive away the US guided-missile destroyer from near Paracel island in the South China Sea region.
This exercise was done after US President Joe Biden talked to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed about the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, the strategic dialogue between India, USA, Japan and Australia which will mainly focus on China.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said according to White House agreed to continuing close cooperation to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific, including support for freedom of navigation, territorial integrity, and a stronger regional architecture through the Quad.”
