In the interview with Oprah Winfrey Prince Harry and Meghan accused the British Royal Family of depriving their son Archie of a royal title because of her skin colour.
Archie is in seventh to the British throne while Harry’s elder brother’s children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis all are second in line to the throne and destined to be king one day.
As per a decree issued by King George V in 1917 limits the titles of prince and princess to the children of the monarch, children of the monarch’s sons, and the eldest living son of the eldest son of the (Prince of Wales)’, according to this that is William’s son Prince George.
This rule was made to trim the increasingly unwieldy number of princely titles.
Only the Queen has the power to amend the rules so in 2012 Queen Elizabeth II decreed that all the children of Prince William and his wife, Catherine, not just the eldest son of William.
As per George V convention, Harry’s son Archie is not a prince but will become one as the grandchild of a monarch once Prince Charles becomes the King.
In the interview, Meghan said she and Harry wanted to change the convention for Archie.
At birth Archie was eligible for a “courtesy title” like ‘Lord’ but it was reported after his birth that Harry and Meghan had chosen not to give him a title. But in the interview, Megan told it was not her decision.
Now the question is does this affect Archie’s security.
Meghan was concern without a title; Archie wasn’t going to receive security. But a royal title like a prince or princess does not automatically bring security protection. All Full-time working royals even Harry and Megan before moving to the US receive taxpayer-funded police bodyguards. Any senior Royal working outside the Royal Family like Prince Andrew’s daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie does not get security.
