Pakistan SC orders Daniel Pearl killer to be shifted to government rest house.

Pakistan SC orders Daniel Pearl’s killer Omar Saeed Sheikh to be shifted to government rest house this has been criticized by India and the US.

The external affair ministry of India called this ‘travesty of justice’ and this shows lack of seriousness on taking action on terror-related issues by Pakistan.

Omar Saeed Sheikh was one of the three terrorist released by India in exchange for a hijacked plane Indian Airlines Flight 814 in 1999.

The Pakistan SC has ordered to move Omar from his death row cell to a government rest house within 2 days.

The Pakistan’s top court said Omar should be given proper security at his rest house and should not be granted access to mobile phones and the internet as he should not be in touch with the outside world. However his family can visit him at his rest house between 8 am to 5 pm and he will also be allowed to spend Kashmir Day with relatives as reported by media with Pakistan.

Kashmir Day is celebrated in Pakistan on 5th of February every year to show their support   for separatists in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

This matter was also main concern shown by US secretary of state Antony Blinken on is his introductory phone call with Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on 29th January 2021. The US secretary of state discussed Pakistan’s accountability for convicted terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and also Omar should be handed over to US so that he could prosecuted there.

Pakistan SC is at the moment hearing appeal by Sindh government against its recent order.
