The emergency services in New Zealand ordered coastal communities across large swathes of the North Island to evacuate on Friday after a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake in the Pacific would generate a tsunami.
As per the National Emergency Management Agency: People living in the coast must evacuate and move far inland as much as possible.
Tsunami waves between 1 to 3 meters in amplitude are expected to hit parts of the northern coast of New Zealand.
