7-Day Police Custody for actor Deep Sidhu over Red Fort violence

Deep Sidhu the Actor-activist who is accused in the violence at the Red Fort during a farmers’ tractor rally on 26th January (Republic Day) was arrested near Delhi on Tuesday 9th January. He was sent to 7 days police custody.

Earlier police announced a reward of ₹ 1 Lakh (Rs 100000) for leads on Deep Sidhu and 3 other accused.

He was arrested in Karnal which is about 100km away from Delhi in the State of Haryana as according to report he kept changing his locations to evade arrest.

Deep was accused of fuelling chaos and clashes during farmer’s tractor rally in Delhi on 26th January when protesting farmers diverted from their agreed routes and schedules and forced themselves into the historical Red Fort complex.

They protesters were also seen climbing the historic ramparts and placing a Sikh religious flag under India’s national flag as well as violently clashing with the police. This incident was widely condemned.

Deep Sidhu the 36 years old actor kept posting videos on Facebook defending himself even as teams of the Delhi police’s crime branch hunted for him.

According to police the videos were uploaded by his friend in California.

He has also been accused by other farmer’s leaders of attempting to derail their movement and leading a “conspiracy” against them.

Deep also hit back on those leaders who accused him saying if he has being labelled a gaddar (traitor), then all farmer leaders are gaddars.”.

On the other vise he also accused the farmers leaders of backtracking on their protests.

Apart from Deep Sidhu Delhi police have registered 44 cases and arrested about 122 people in this connection and several farmers union have been named in these cases.
