The Maldives declares 4th wave of Covid-19

The Maldives’ Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) in Male has declared that the island nation is experiencing the 4th wave of the Covid-19 pandemic because the daily infections broke the local record for 4 consecutive days on Thursday.

Mohammed Ali a HEOC member on Wednesday said that that a recent surge in infections has increased the chances for a spread of new variants.

734 new Covid-19 cased were detected in the Maldives on Wednesday taking the total number of infections to 32,665.

540 of the Total new infections were detected in the capital region of Greater Male and the remaining were detected in inhabited islands.

The current death toll in the Maldives is 74.
