North Korea fires 2 missiles: South Korea

On Thursday North Korea fires 2 short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea while testing the weapons. This was confirmed by South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

The missiles were fired from the North’s Hamju town in South Hamgyong Province at about 7.06 a.m and 7.25 a.m. The missiles flew about 450 km at an altitude of 60 km.

As analyzed by South Korean and SS intelligence authorities these could be short-range ballistic missiles.

The last time North Korea fired a ballistic missile in March last year.

It was not known whether North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un oversaw the missiles firing.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, said the projectiles were ballistic missiles. The Prime Minister further said that Japan is making a serious protest as well as Japan strongly condemns this act.

He also said missiles launch threatens the peace and stability of his country and the region, this is a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

It is the 2nd time North Korea has launched missiles in the past week.

This development came after Pyongyang fired 2 cruise missiles into the Yellow Sea on Sunday.

According to the US, the Sunday launch was part of “normal testing” not in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

These tests came in the wake of joint military exercises by the armed forces of the US and South Korea.

This military exercise was condemned by Kim Yo-jong, Kim Jong-un’s influential sister.
