North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s sister, Kim Yo-Jong threatened to scrap a peace agreement with South Korea on Tuesday as South Korea conducted military exercises with the US.
In a statement, Kim Yo-Jong said “”South Korea has again chosen ‘March of war’ and ‘March of crisis’ instead of ‘warm March’ in front of all Korean people”. She said this referring to the deal signed between both nations in September 2018 to ease cross-border tensions.
Kim Yo-Jong also said that North Korea will have no choice but to disband the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country handling cross-border affairs and dialogue as there will be no reason to keep such an organization.
This statement from North Korea came after the White House said it has reached out to North Korea for talks, but Pyongyang has remained unresponsive.
As per the reports, the US and South Korea started their springtime combined military drills on 8th March with minimum troops due to the Covid-19 pandemic. These military drills will last until Thursday.
Kim Yo-Jong has accused Seoul of making excuses about the reduced size and changed the format of the annual drills.
She also warned the new administration in the US against any provocative acts.
