Joe Biden tours Samsung chip plant in S.Korea amid supply chain woes

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and his counterpart US President Joe Biden voyaged a Samsung Electronics chip factory together on Friday, demonstrating their commitment to expanding the alliance between the two countries beyond the security sphere to global force chains and other crucial areas.

Seoul, May 20 (IANS) South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and his counterpart US President Joe Biden voyaged a Samsung Electronics chip factory together on Friday, demonstrating their commitment to expanding the alliance between the two countries beyond the security sphere to global force chains and other crucial areas.
The two met at the installation in Pyeongtaek, 70 km south of Seoul, shortly after Biden arrived in the country on his first visit as chairman and only 10 days after Yoon took office, reports Yonhap news agency.

After traveling the sprawling emulsion for about 20 twinkles, with Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-Yong guiding them, the two participated in a stage to give reflections on the heightening cooperation between the countries on semiconductors, force chains, and charting a future together.
“I hope that through moment’s visit, the South Korea-U.S. relationship will be born again into a profitable security alliance grounded on cooperation on slice-edge technology and force chains,” Yoon said in his reflections.

“I ask President Biden to not only give colorful impulses to our semiconductor companies for their investment in the United States but to also take a great interest in the investment of advanced American material, outfit, and chip design companies in South Korea,” he said.
Yoon also pledged his administration’s full support for the domestic semiconductor assiduity, saying he’ll consider the chips a” public security asset” and give” bold impulses.”

The visit to the chip installation was a largely emblematic move demonstrating the two countries’ solidarity in the face of rising competition from China in securing force chains amid a post-pandemic deficit of semiconductors, among other crucial accouterments.
The Samsung factory is the world’s largest chip product installation, counting for 15 percent of global memory chip products.

South Korea has the second-largest share of the global chip request at19.9 percent, after theU.S. with49.8 percent, according to data handled by the presidential office.
In memory chips alone, South Korea has the largest world share at 59 percent.

Biden said the epidemic exposed the fragility of” just in time force chains” before Russian President Vladimir Putin’s” brutal and unprovoked war in Ukraine” further spotlighted the significance of icing”our profitable and our public security aren’t dependent on countries that do not partake our values.”
“A critical element of how we’ll do that,” he said in his speech,” is by working with close mates, who do partake our values, like the Republic of Korea, to secure further of what we need from our abettors and mates, and bolster our force chain adaptability.”

“The alliance between the Republic of Korea and the United States of America is a linchpin of peace, stability, and substance for the region and the world that we seek,” he added.
