Budget 2024 Focuses on Fairness for Everyone, says MP Ruby Sahota

Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North, teamed up with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland to unveil Budget 2024: Fairness for Every Generation.

“This Budget plan aims to create a Canada where everyone has a fair shot at a good life,” MP Sahota explained. “It’s about helping residents like mine in Brampton North succeed, afford homes, and enjoy a fair opportunity at a good middle-class life.”

Here’s what Budget 2024 aims to do:

More Homes, Lower Prices: The Budget aims to tackle the housing crisis by making it easier to build homes. By 2031, the plan is to add 3.87 million new homes. They’ll do this by launching initiatives like the Public Lands for Homes Plan and the Canada Rental Protection Fund, and improving mortgage options.

Lowering Costs: Building on existing programs like $10-a-day childcare and dental care, Budget 2024 aims to reduce everyday expenses. This includes stabilizing grocery prices, cracking down on unfair fees, and making banking cheaper. New initiatives like the National School Food Program and the Canada Disability Benefit will also help.

Shared Economic Growth: The Budget plans to boost the economy for everyone. It aims to attract investment, boost productivity, and foster innovation to create better-paying jobs. This includes supporting entrepreneurs, investing in AI, and providing more research grants for younger generations.

Budget 2024 also aims to make Canada’s tax system fairer by ensuring the wealthiest pay their share. This helps invest in the future without burdening the next generation with debt. It aligns with fiscal goals outlined in the 2023 Fall Economic Statement, maintaining Canada’s strong financial position compared to other G7 countries.
