The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) also known as Mitrajot is set to form the government in Assam for the 2nd term as the ruling Mitrajot according to the latest trends is likely to win 75 seats in the 126-member Assembly in Assam.
The Congress-led “Mahajot” (Grand Alliance) is expected to win about 45 seats.
As per the Election Commission of India, the counting of votes is still in progress in 34 districts across the north-eastern state of India.
All Important BJP candidates like the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the state Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state BJP President Ranjeet Kumar Dass are leading on their respective seats.
Many top Congress leaders like the state Congress President Ripun Bora and Legislature Party leader Debabrata Saikia are trailing.
The BJP is leading in 56 seats its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is leading in 11 seats. BJP’s another ally United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) is leading in 8 seats.
The INC (Congress) is leading in 29 seats while its allies like the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is leading in 14 seats, the Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) and the CPI-M leading in 1 seat each. While Raijor Dal (RD) President and jailed leader, Akhil Gogoi who are contesti ng as independent candidate from Sibasagar constituency are also leading.
