27 killed in Bangladesh ferry capsize

At least 27 people killed and a dozen others swimming for their lives after a ferry capsized in the Shitalakkhya River in Narayanganj district of Bangladesh, this place is about 20 km away from the capital city of Dhaka.

This happened due to the ferry’s collision with a cargo ship at about 6 pm Sunday night.

Most of the people who got killed were trapped inside the ferry after it got capsized after hitting a ship.

The bodies of 21 people were recovered from the ferry after 11 hours long operation in which the vessel had to be pulled from the water.

The body of 6 other people was recovered outside the ferry.

Those killed included women and children.

19 people were rescued after swimming from the ferry.

There were about 50 passengers on the overcrowded ferry.

Ferries are an important means of transport in Bangladesh but most of them are overcrowded.
