The Election Commission of India dismisses Jairam Ramesh’s allegations against Amit Shah

New Delhi,India: The Election Commission rejects Jairam Ramesh’s request for a week’s extension to provide evidence supporting his allegations against Union Minister Amit Shah. Ramesh must submit evidence by 7 pm today.

The Commission states no complaints were received from any district magistrate or other officials. Ramesh accused Shah of intimidating collectors and district magistrates, claiming Shah had contacted 150 of them. The Election Commission demands evidence from Ramesh, emphasizing the importance of accurate claims.

Ramesh had sought more time, but the Commission denied his request, stating it would presume Ramesh had nothing substantive to add if he failed to respond by the deadline. “Your allegation that attempts have been made to influence the District Magistrates of around 150 Parliamentary Constituencies, who are also the ROs/DEOs, has serious connotation and direct bearing on the sanctity of the counting process, scheduled for tomorrow,” the Commission said in its response. The Commission underscores the significance of maintaining public trust in the electoral process and urges Ramesh to address the matter promptly.
