T20 World Cup 2024: IND vs CAN abandoned due to wet outfield in Lauderhill

Canada: Team India’s final group stage match against Canada at Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, was abandoned on Saturday due to a wet outfield. Consequently, both teams were awarded one point each. Despite the abandonment, India had already secured their qualification for the next stage, finishing at the top of Group A with 7 points. The USA followed in second place, while Canada, Ireland, and Pakistan were eliminated from the group.

Notably, Pakistan, who had already been eliminated, will play their final group stage game at the same venue later on Sunday.

This match marked the third abandonment at this venue during the tournament. Sri Lanka’s match against Nepal was also washed out, and Pakistan’s elimination was sealed on Saturday when the match between the USA and Ireland was canceled. Pakistan needed Ireland to win against the USA to have a chance to advance, but the washout left them with no opportunity to progress, even with one game remaining.

As it stands, Australia, the West Indies, Afghanistan, and South Africa will join India and the USA in the Super 8s. Two more spots, one each from Group B and Group D, are still up for grabs.
