Moscow: On Monday evening, Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence in Novo-Ogaryovo for a private engagement. The Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson described it as “a meeting of two close friends and trusted partners” on X (formerly Twitter).
“PM @narendramodi was welcomed by President Vladimir Putin of Russia at his official residence in Novo-Ogaryovo for a private engagement,” the Spokesperson shared, along with photographs of the meeting. The occasion was highlighted as a moment to cherish and celebrate the friendship between India and Russia.
This visit marks Prime Minister Modi’s first trip to Russia since the start of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. He arrived in Moscow on Monday to hold summit talks with President Putin on Tuesday, a visit that is seen as significant in the broader geopolitical context.
Upon landing in Moscow, PM Modi expressed his anticipation of deepening the bilateral partnership in futuristic areas, stating that stronger ties between India and Russia would “greatly benefit our people.” He also emphasized India’s aim to play a “supportive role” in ensuring a peaceful and stable region in his departure statement.
Prime Minister Modi was received at the Vnukovo-II airport by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, who also accompanied him to his hotel from the airport.
