The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) says. Ontario is not ready to lift the stay-at-home order and should extend the current lockdown measures past 20th May.
According to OMA, the number of new COVID-19 cases daily and the number of people in the hospital make it unsafe to lift restrictions at the moment.
The OMA does believe that restrictions on outdoor recreational activities like tennis, golf, and basketball should be lifted for the improvement of people’s mental and physical health.
OMA President Dr. Samantha Hill said on Wednesday that, “We all want the third wave to be the last wave.”
“No one wants to start lifting restrictions too soon, only to find the virus spreading again and we have to go back into lockdown.”
Samantha said extending the stay-at-home order past 20th May will increase the chances of Ontarians enjoying summer with fewer restrictions in place and well it will lead to a “more normal” fall in Ontario.
The extension of lockdown also depends on the number of people vaccinated and when.
