Justin Trudeau the Canadian Prime Minister announced that Canada signed a deal with Novavax to produce millions of COVID-19 vaccine dose once the deal is approved.
The company in US is still doing clinical trials of the vaccine. Once the vaccine is approved by Health Canada a new National Research Council facility will start producing Novavax COVID-19 vaccine once the building is finished later this year in Montreal.
This Novavax COVID-19 vaccine will be the first vaccine produced in Canada.
At the moment Canada depends on other countries for vaccine supply so there is a risk that other countries could ban the export of vaccine until their own population gets vaccinated.
The Prime Minister also said additional vaccines could be produced in Saskatchewan and Vancouver but there are no deals yet.
