A homeless man living in a wooden shelter in an encampment east of downtown Toronto was killed when he was in a makeshift structure that caught fire on Wednesday morning.
Fire-fighters were called at an encampment in Orphans Green Park, near Adelaide Street East and Power Street at about 6 am Wednesday morning for a fire.
When the Fire-fighters arrived they found a wooden structure on fire, with one person inside.
According to an eye witness he saw fire crews spray the small structure, extinguish it, and then rush to rip it apart once they realized there was a person inside.
According to Police apart from that man no one else was at the encampment.
It was a wooden structure coated both inside and out with some form of insulation that caught fire.
The scene will be investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal.
The encampment has been at the dog park for most of the winter according to local residents.
