London : Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that Britain’s monarch, Charles, has been diagnosed with a form of cancer and will be scaling back on his public duties. The 75-year-old underwent a three-night hospital stay last month for a routine procedure related to an enlarged prostate, during which a separate concern was discovered, leading to further tests identifying cancer.
“In the course of His Majesty’s recent hospitalization for benign prostate enlargement, an additional concern was identified, leading to subsequent diagnostic tests revealing a cancer diagnosis.
“His Majesty has now commenced a course of standard treatments, during which he has been advised by medical professionals to temporarily step back from public engagements. However, he will continue to fulfill his state and official responsibilities as usual.
“The King expresses gratitude to his medical team for their prompt intervention, facilitated by his recent hospital procedure. He remains optimistic about his treatment and anticipates resuming full public duties as soon as possible.
“In sharing his diagnosis, His Majesty aims to dispel speculation and hopes to contribute to raising awareness for those globally affected by cancer,” Buckingham Palace stated.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak extended wishes for a swift recovery to King Charles, stating, “Wishing His Majesty a speedy and complete recovery. I have every confidence he will soon be back in full vigor, and I know the entire nation joins me in sending him well wishes,” in a post on the social media platform X.
In response, the leader of the Labour Party, Keir Starmer, conveyed his well wishes, saying, “On behalf of the Labour Party, I extend our best wishes to His Majesty for a speedy recovery. We eagerly anticipate his return to good health.”
