Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted on Saturday that nothing would impede Israel from achieving success in its conflict against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
“No force will stop us—neither The Hague, nor the Axis of Evil, nor anything else. It’s both possible and necessary to persevere until victory, and we will do it,” Netanyahu declared during a televised press conference as the war in Gaza entered its 100th day on Sunday.
He was addressing a case presented before the UN’s top court, the International Court of Justice in The Hague, which alleges that Israel’s actions violate the UN Genocide Convention. Netanyahu also mentioned an alliance of Iran-backed armed groups across the Middle East known as the Axis of Resistance.
Netanyahu claimed that the military assault in Gaza had previously “eliminated most of the Hamas operatives” in the besieged Palestinian territory. However, he stated that those displaced from northern Gaza would not be able to return to their homes anytime soon.
“There’s an international law, and it states a simple thing—you displace a population, and you do not allow it to return as long as the danger exists,” Netanyahu explained. “And the danger exists. There’s fighting there (in northern Gaza).”
