Priya Malik won the women’s 73 kg weight category gold medal at World Cadet Wrestling Championship in Hungary after defeating Belarus wrestler Kseniya Patapovich 5-0 in the final match.
Priya Malik’s gold win comes a day after the champion weightlifter Mirabai Chanu had won silver in the Women’s 49kg category in Tokyo Olympics.
Priya has been winning gold on a regular basis. Priya Malik has won the gold medal in the 2019 edition of Khelo India that was held in Pune and in the same year she went on to win a gold medal at the 17th School Games that were held in Delhi.
Priya won 2 more gold in the year 2020 at the National Cadet Championship in Patna and at the National School Games.
After this victory, Priya Malik became the 1st athlete to win a gold medal for India in World Wrestling Championship.
Apart from Priya, another Indian wrestler won a bronze medal on Thursday after defeating Turkey’s Duygu Gen in the 65kg category.
