In Jaipur, Rajasthan a hungry 22-year-old pregnant woman was raped by 2 ambulance drivers, who promised to give her food.
This incident evoked protests from the opposition in Rajasthan as well as the National Commission for Women on Thursday.
The Rajasthan Police DGP has been asked for a fair and time-bound investigation.
According to the police, the poor woman lived with her husband on a footpath in front of S.M.S Hospital, the woman went out to beg for food on 24th May, and an ambulance driver lured her promising her to give food and one of his friends also joined him.
The 2 men promised the woman to provide her a complete meal if she stays silent and after that, both of them took turns to rape her in the ambulance and later dropped her near the SMS Hospital.
Police arrested both the accused on Wednesday night, but still, BJP state President Satish Poonia still questioned Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on the “deteriorating” law and order in the state, “What kind of security is provided in the state when a hungry pregnant woman, begging for food, is raped in the centre of the city?” he asked, terming Gehlot’s claims that he is providing food and shelter to poor a “failure”.
Meanwhile, the NCW, in a tweet, said: “@NCWIndia is perturbed by the reported incident & has taken cognizance of the matter. Chairperson @sharmarekha has written to DGP Rajasthan seeking fair & time-bound investigation in the matter. NCW has also asked to apprise the Commission about the action taken at the earliest.”
