Hundreds of people gathered in the US city of Atlanta to protest hate crimes against Asian-Americans. These protests were done after multiple shootings in and around the US city of Atlanta that killed 8 people among whom 6 were Asian women.
On Saturday the demonstrators march from Woodruff Park to the State Capitol, they called Stop Asian Hate event calling on people to “come together to grieve, heal and support. They were chanting slogans Stop Asian hate!” and “We are what America looks like” they ultimately gathered at Liberty Plaza.
The protesters were also waving American flags and carrying posters that read “We are not the virus”.
2 newly-elected Senators, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff also led the crowd in a moment of silence.
A white man Robert Aaron Long, 21 admitted to the police department that he had killed 4 people inside 2 spas in Atlanta and 4 others at a massage parlor in suburban Cherokee County on Tuesday.
The police are still investigating whether racism played a role in the carnage and if the attacks can be classified as hate crimes.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris went to Atlanta on Friday and had a meeting with Asian-American community leaders and asked the American people to stand up to and speak out against hate.
