El Nino’s Fierce Heat Carries New Risk Of Resurgent Deadly Viruses

The return of El Nino after nearly four times is raising the specter of extreme rainfall, profitable pain, and agrarian dislocation across the globe. Now add another unwelcome effect to the mix: a resurgence of tropical diseases.

The World Health Organization sounded the alarm in a press conference before this week, when Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus advised that the rainfall miracle” could increase transmission of dengue and other so- called arboviruses similar as Zika and chikungunya.”

Mosquitoes that transmit similar contagions flourish in the warmer rainfall that El Nino is set to bring to numerous corridor of the world.

Regions from South America to Asia are formerly scuffling with surges in tropical conditions. Peru has declared a state of exigency over its worst recorded dengue outbreak on record, with about 150,000 suspected cases reported so far this time. The WHO advised that infections are putting a “heavy burden” on the country’s health system.

Meanwhile, Thailand has seen its loftiest number of dengue cases in three times, with 19,503 reported by original health authorities from the launch of 2023 through the first week of June. Cases are also on the rise in Malaysia and Cambodia, according to the WHO, while Singapore authorities advised before in the time about the eventuality for a swell in cases between June and October.
