Death penalty awarded to Ariz Khan in Batla House case

A Delhi’s Saket court awarded the death penalty to Ariz Khan, convicted of the murder of police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and other offenses, in the 2008 Batla House encounter case. The court called this case as rarest of the rare.

On 8th March Ariz Khan was convicted for the murder of encounter specialist and Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma of Delhi Police.

Ariz Khan has been awarded capital punishment under Section 302 (murder) along with many other charges.

Additional Sessions Judge Sandeep Yadav at Delhi’s Saket Court directed Rs 10 lakh out of the fine of Rs. Eleven lakh imposed on Khan to be released as compensation to the wife of deceased Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma.

According to the Court, Khan along with his associates intentionally and voluntarily caused the murder of Inspector Sharma by firing gunshots.

The Batla House encounter case happened on 19th September 2008 when a team of Special Cell of Delhi Police carried out an encounter at Batla House located in Jamia Nagar area in Delhi in which two suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists and Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma died.

Ariz Khan fled from the spot and was declared a proclaimed offender. Khan was arrested on 14th February 2018 and his trial started after that.

According to Delhi Police Ariz Khan is connected with the terror outfit Indian Mujahideen. Khan was present at Batla House during the encounter and managed to give the police a slip.

Shahzad Ahmed another Indian Mujahideen terrorist was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the Batla House case by a trial court in July 2013.
