New Delhi, India: During a recent live bariatric surgery, Dr. Mohit Bhandari and his team made history by employing Apple Vision Pro, an augmented reality (AR) device developed by the tech giant. This groundbreaking procedure, conducted at a Pristyn Care surgical center in New Delhi, utilized the device to perform a sleeve gastric bypass and Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal (SADI) procedure on a 45-year-old patient weighing 155 kg, afflicted with obstructive sleep apnea and high blood pressure. The surgery, lasting 40 minutes, demonstrated the device’s ability to provide a highly immersive 3D environment, enabling Dr. Bhandari and his team to visualize intricate anatomical structures with unparalleled clarity.
Dr. Vaibhav Kapoor, co-founder of Pristyn Care, hailed the successful integration of Apple Vision Pro into bariatric surgery as a significant step towards revolutionizing surgical procedures, promising enhanced precision, improved outcomes, and setting new standards in healthcare.
Dr. Bhandari echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the device’s potential to advance surgical precision and patient outcomes. Pristyn Care, founded in August 2018 by Harsimarbir Singh, Dr. Vaibhav Kapoor, and Dr. Garima Sawhney, is renowned for facilitating advanced secondary care surgeries with the aid of over 200 in-house super-specialty surgeons across numerous partner hospitals and clinics.
In a similar development, surgeons in Brazil recently utilized Apple Vision Pro during shoulder arthroscopy to project high-resolution images and real-time data, enhancing visualization during surgery. Additionally, surgeons in London leveraged the device for a complex spinal procedure. The Apple Vision Pro headset, priced at ₹2.88 lakh in India, continues to redefine the boundaries of medical innovation.
