The 2024 Golden Globe Awards concluded, honoring outstanding achievements in TV and film. Hosted by the comedian Jo Koy, the event was broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, following a star-studded red carpet pre-show.
“Barbie” and “Race” led the night with nine nominations each, tying for the most nominations in any movie or television show. While “Barbie” vied for the prestigious musical or comedy motion picture award, it lost to “Poor Effects.” On the other hand, “Race” secured the win in the stylish TV drama category. “Oppenheimer,” the counterpart of the box office hit Barbenheimer, received eight nominations, the second-highest for any movie or television show. It secured the award for stylish drama motion picture, triumphing over films such as Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro.”
Christopher Nolan, the director of “Oppenheimer,” along with actors Robert DowneyJr. and Cillian Murphy, and the film’s musician Ludwig Göransson, all received Golden Globes.
This marked the first Golden Globes held since the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the former organizer of the award ceremony, disbanded amid controversies. The Golden Globes rights were acquired by Dick Clark Productions, a company that had long co-produced the show with the HFPA.
