Manipur Schools Reopen, Fear And Lack Of Transport Keep Most Children Away

Fear and a lack of transportation kept most children down from seminaries in violence- hit Manipur when they restarted moment after staying shut for over two months. The attendance on the first day was only 20 percent.

State education department officers, still, said that the scholars who did attend expressed happiness that the seminaries had restarted, and the sentiment was participated by their parents as well. The state government is also making sweats to arrange free admission in near seminaries for scholars who have been displaced.

Violence had erupted in the state on May 3 and the state government had blazoned extended summer holiday for the seminaries from May 4. Chief Minister N Biren Singh had said on Monday that seminaries would renew for Classes 1 to 8 moment.

Education department officers attributed moment’s low attendance to violence- related issues, transportation troubles and fear among parents and children.

A elderly functionary said,” Parents and guardians of the scholars are happy that seminaries have restarted after prolonged summer holiday. During examination of seminaries on the first day of resumption of classes, the scholars also expressed their happiness. It was also observed that utmost of the children who attended academy moment were displaced scholars from relief camps.”

The state government said that out of the 4,617 seminaries in colorful sections of Manipur, 96 couldn’t be restarted because they’re being used as relief camps for people displaced by the violence. Of these 96 seminaries, 41 are in Churachandpur quarter, 17 in Bishnupur, 10 in Kakching, eight each in Kangpokpi and Imphal East, four each in Ukhrul and Tengnoupal, and two each in Imphal West and Thoubal sections.

Piecemeal from arranging free admission for displaced scholars, the government has exempted violence-affected scholars from Classes 9 to 12 from having to pay freights to modernize their enrollment . “No freights shall be charged for updation of enrollment with the Board of Secondary Education Manipur and Council of Advanced Secondary Education Manipur in similar cases,” said an functionary.

The Department of Education (S) and Samagra Shiksha, Manipur, have also distributed handbooks, exercise books, pens, pencils, sports outfit and academy uniforms to displaced children staying in relief camps in both the hill and vale sections.
