An earthquake measuring 6.1 magnitude jolts New Zealand

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted East Sea of New Zealand on Monday and tremors were even felt in the North Island.

The earthquake occurred at 7.37 p.m. (local time) in the East Cape Region of New Zealand, which is about 120 km east of Te Araroa at a depth of 33 km.

This was reported by GeoNet, New Zealand’s geological hazard information centre. GeoNet also received more than 7,800 felt reports.

3 strong quakes jolted New Zealand’s sea off the coast of the North Island that resulted in a tsunami warning on the coast.
