The glacier burst happened in Tapovan area of Joshimath in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district at Rishiganga power project after a portion of Nanda Devi glacier broke off.
As of Monday 8pm IST 26 bodies recovered and 171 people still missing and rescue operations underway.
The rescue operation are done my many agency like National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) .
The rescue operation is going on full swing to release people still stuck in the tunnels. The forces involved were able to clear about 90 meter stretch of debris in the big tunnel at Tapovan but with about 100 meters of clearing still left to do.
According to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat who was at Chamoli district his administration’s first priority is to save lives.
China expressed their condolence and sympathy to the families of the bereaved and the injured in the glacier burst.
