United States and Canada signed an agreement to send an astronaut from Canada around the moon in order to establish a new space station above the lunar surface.
Canada’s involvement was confirmed by new Gateway Treaty in United States’s effort to build a new space station known as the Lunar Gateway.
According to the treaty US will have Canadian on board when the U.S. conducts a flyby of the moon in the year 2023 and a 2nd flight not scheduled yet.
Canadian astronaut will be included in Artemis 2 which is the 1st mission in over 50 years to carry humans to lunar orbit which will make Canada 2nd country after United States to send its astronaut in deep space.
A new robotic arm will be contributed by Canada to help build a Lunar Gateway that will orbit around the moon in order to explore lunar surface as well as assist future Mars missions.
$22.8 million was committed by the government to build the new Canadarm3 by MDA Canada.
