45 decomposed dead bodies found in river Ganga in Bihar

As Covid-19 surge wreaking havoc in India, in Buxar district of Bihar on Monday administration found at least 45 dead bodies. Most of the dead bodies are in decomposed stage floating in river Ganga.

The Bihar administration says that the dead bodies been thrown into the river Ganga upstream from Uttar Pradesh.

According to Ashok Kumar, the Block Development Officer of Chausa in the district said that the administration has found 45 dead bodies at Mahadev Ghat.

Ashok Kumar said, “Chausa is located on the Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border. These dead bodies are definitely thrown in districts in Uttar Pradesh. We have deployed guards at Mahadev Ghat and cremations of dead bodies are underway.”

According to Buxar SDO K.K. Upadhyay, “During preliminary investigation, it has appeared that the dead bodies are in decomposed state and more than 5 to 6 days old. We are interacting with our counterparts in Varanasi and Allahabad (Prayagraj) to investigate the incident and intensify vigil in the areas located on the banks of the Ganga.”

The situation in Mahadev Ghat is really shocking as the dead bodies flowing in the river are being torn apart by street dogs and vultures.

Anjoria Devi who is the wife of the Dom Raja of Mahadev Ghat in Chausa accuses the relatives of the deceased who are throwing the dead bodies into the Ganga without cremation.

Anjoria said, “Around 10 dead bodies are being thrown in every day. When they were asked not to do so, they assault us. They also argue who would bear the expenses of cremation.”
