23 Afghan commandos killed in clashes with Taliban

At least 23 members of an Afghan Army’s special unit were killed during a fierce clash with the Taliban in the northern province of Faryab in Afghanistan.

The clash happened in Dawlat Abad district after the commandos and local troops launched a clearing operation, 6 policemen were also injured in the clash.

The securities forces have retreated from the center of the district following the heavy clashes are now stationed in Qaramqol district.

The center of Dawlat Abad district fell to the Taliban a week ago after heavy fighting.

Violence remains high in the nation amid a stalled peace process.

Fighting between Afghan security forces and the Taliban was reported from at least 80 districts in a day.

About 100 Taliban fighters and 90 security force members were killed during this period.

Neither the Taliban nor the government has provided the exact number of deaths.

At least 30 districts have fallen to the Taliban since the beginning of the official withdrawal of the US and other NATO troops on the 1st of May.
