Andre De Grasse and Team Canada claimed gold in the men’s 4×100-metre relay at the Paris 2024 Olympics, finishing with a swift time of 37.50 seconds. This victory marked Canada’s seventh gold medal of the Games. The team, composed of Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, Brendon Rodney, and De Grasse, narrowly edged out South Africa by seven-hundredths of a second to secure the silver, with Great Britain taking the bronze.
The U.S. team was disqualified after a mishandled first handoff, eliminating them from the competition.
This win was particularly meaningful for De Grasse, who had faced challenges in Paris after failing to reach the finals in the 100- and 200-metre individual events. The gold medal also extends Canada’s streak of success in the 4×100-metre relay, with the team having previously won silver at Tokyo 2020 and bronze in Rio. In total, Team Canada has now medaled five times in this event at the Olympics.
With this victory, De Grasse ties with swimmer Penny Oleksiak as Canada’s most decorated Olympian, each boasting seven medals.
