New Delhi, India: Following a marathon six-week, seven-phase voting process, the results for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 were declared yesterday. The BJP-led NDA emerged victorious with 292 seats, surpassing the Opposition alliance – INDIA, which secured 232 seats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to take oath on Saturday evening (June 8). Today, both the NDA and the INDIA bloc are convening crucial meetings to chart their respective courses of action. The electoral contest between the BJP and the INDIA alliance reflects a broader ideological struggle.
Prime Minister Modi has hailed the poll results as a “victory of the world’s largest democracy”. Despite setting an ambitious target of 370 seats (including NDA partners), the BJP faced stiff opposition from the Congress-led INDIA bloc, which secured 232 seats. This remarkable performance defied exit polls and significantly reduced the BJP’s advantage in key states.
