Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gets bail in corruption cases

The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday gave Sharif bail until Thursday and prosecutors didn’t expostulate, trusting he’d turn up for the trial, Sharif’s counsel Azam Nazeer Tarar said.

Sharif returned to Pakistan last week after four times of tone-assessed exile in London in a shot to stand in coming time’s choices against his biggest rival, former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Sharif hadn’t set bottom in Pakistan since 2019 when he travelled to the United Kingdom’s capital for medical treatment while serving a 14- time captivity judgment for corruption.

Before, his bail in a separate case was verified by a corruption court in Islamabad.

“A date will be fixed by the court for when proceedings should start,” Naseer Ahmed Bhutta, another of Sharif’s attorneys, told the Agence France-Presse news agency outside the court.

“He’ll attend all proceedings that he’s needed to.”

Presently, Khan, Sharif’s successor, is locked on corruption charges and serving a three- time judgment . Khan was removed from office in a no-confidence vote in April 2022, but he’s still Pakistan’s leading opposition figure and enjoys a large following along with his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.

Like Khan, Sharif isn’t presently eligible to run for a seat in congress.
