The mystery deepened in the case of a kidnapped Indian-origin family in California as officials reported that a person was taken into custody in connection with the case after he attempted suicide and the truck belonging to one of the victims was found burning.
But still missing is the abducted family- eight-month-old baby Aroohi Dheri, her parents, Jasleen Kaur, 27, and Jasdeep Singh, 36, and uncle, Amandeep Singh, 39. A 48- time-old man was held” as a person of interest” on Tuesday and is in a” critical condition” at a sanitarium after the self-murder attempt, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said.
Amandeep Singh’s woman, Jaspreet Kaur, made an appeal on television for the victims’ release” I’m soliciting in front of the people who took my family down, please, please let them go.” ” My bastard, she’s just an 8- month-old sprat and she does not have any food with them,” she said.
Merced County is about 225 kilometres southeast of San Francisco. Detailing the hijacking, the Sheriff’s office said that they were advised to the hijacking on Monday when a truck belonging to Amandeep Singh was set up burning on a trace.
When officers were unfit to communicate him, they reached out to a family member.
Family members reported the four missing after they could not communicate them moreover and officers were directed to a business, Unison Trucking, to probe, according to the Sheriff’s office.
investigators also determined that the four had been abducted, it said. Jaspreet Kaur told KTLA TV that her hubby had gone to work that day at 8 a.m. and she got a call at about 11 a.m. that there was no bone at the business’s frontal office and when she tried calling him, the calls went to voicemail.
The person in guardianship was linked by the Sheriff’s office as Jesus Manuel Salgado who was picked up after it entered information about him. But before law enforcement officers came involved, he’d tried to take his own life, the Sheriff’s office said.
It said that a bank reported that a bank card belonging to one of the victims had been used at an ATM machine and officers got a picture of the person using it. ” The person is analogous in appearance to the surveillance print from the original hijacking scene”, the sheriff’s office said.
But it said that the person in the ATM print” was not the person of interest that’s in guardianship” and it was working with the bank” to gain the correct print”. When someone is held” as a person of interest”, it generally means that the person could be an implicit suspect but officers don’t have sufficient information to file charges.
ABC30 television station in Fresno reported that Salgado had before been involved in thievery in 2005. The station said that Merced County prosecutor’s office he was charged with home irruption thievery with a gun, substantiation intimidation and tried false imprisonment in that case.
He was locked and released in 2015, ABC 30 said. The station quoted Sheriff Vernon Warnke as saying,” We’re hoping he recovers because right now, he’s our only lead to the family. We still have no leads on where the family is, what their condition is.”
