Chinese Internet mammoth Baidu on Monday said it’ll soon ply completely driverless hacks in Chongqing and Wuhan metropolises via its independent lift-hailing unit called Apollo Go, getting the first company in the country to herald independent driving.
The hunt machine group lately showcased a new generation of tone-driving vehicles.
Baidu has now secured permits to offer a completely driverless marketable robotaxi service, with no mortal motorist present, reports TechCrunch.

Still, it’ll be the first time an independent vehicle company is suitable to offer a completely driverless lift-hailing service in China in Wuhan and Chongqing metropolises.
” This is a tremendous qualitative change. We believe these permits are a crucial corner on the path to the curve point when the assiduity can eventually roll out completely independent driving services at scale,” said Wei Dong, vice chairman and principal safety operation officer of Baidu’s Intelligent Driving Group. In Wuhan, Baidu’s service will operate from 9a.m. to 5p.m and cover a 13 square km area.
In Chongqing, the service will run from 930a.m. to 430p.m. in a 30-square-km area to begin with. Last month, Baidu revealed designs for its sixth generation electric robotaxi, the Apollo RT6 EV which costs around$,000.
Baidu plans to expand its lift-hailing service to 65 metropolises by 2025 and 100 metropolises by 2030, said the report. Tone-driving auto service voyage lately began driverless marketable service in San Francisco, and Waymo has been offering similar independent services in the megacity of Arizona since 2020.
