An Egypt-brokered ceasefire came into effect between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement on Friday; this ended the 11 days of bloodshed in the Gaza Strip.
The ceasefire came into force at 2 AM on Friday; Egypt will send 2 security delegations to Israel and Palestine to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire.
The heavy fight between Israel and Hamas already killed 232 Palestinians, including 65 children, and 12 Israelis.
Israel’s Cabinet approved the unilateral ceasefire late on Thursday, after mediation by Egypt. Hamas also confirmed the ceasefire shortly after that.
The ceasefire welcomed by the US President Joe Biden expressing “sincere gratitude” to Egypt for its role in brokering the deal.
Biden said, “I extend my sincere gratitude to President al-Sisi and the senior Egyptian officials who played such a critical role in this diplomacy.”
