Additional rescue workers sent to cyclone-hit Indonesian areas

More rescue teams have been sent to cyclone-hit areas of Indonesia as scores of people were still missing on Wednesday.

A tropical cyclone devastated several islands in eastern Indonesia, More than 126 people were killed and 74 people are still missing after floods, landslides and a volcanic avalanche hit a group of islands in East Nusa Tenggara province during the weekend.

Rescue and search team have been sent to the affected areas on Hercules C-130 cargo aircraft from Makassar located in South Sulawesi, Bali, and nearby Flores Island.

Soldiers and Police also joined the search operations.

6 helicopters dropped aid supplies to areas as access to the affected areas due to blocked roads, high seas, and storms.

People who got killed included villagers whose homes were buried in a rain-triggered avalanche of debris from the Lewatolo volcano on Lembata Island.

Lembata and neighboring Adonara badly affected by extreme weather triggered by cyclone Seroja.

Alor Island, Ende, the provincial capital Kupang and Bima in neighboring West Nusa Tenggara province, has also been affected.

More than 27 people got killed in East Timor due to severe weather. It has a population of 1 million people that borders Indonesia’s West Timor.
