India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday presided over an important meeting along with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and top security officials and discussed the strategy to eliminate armed Maoists who are involved in a series of deadly attacks on security forces in the jungles in the Bastar region which is a tribal-dominated area.
The Union Minister reached Jagdalpur which is the headquarters of restive Bastar division on Monday morning and had a meeting with the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh along with top security officials and reviewed the security scenario in the State in wake of a deadly Maoist attack at a remote hilly patch on a more than 1,000-plus security men contingent in Bijapur.
22 Jawans (Security Personals) were brutally killed in an ambush on Saturday after about 400 Maoists surrounded CRPF Jawans from 3 Sides. About 31 jawans were injured as well and 1 Jawan is still missing. According to the Chhattisgarh police, about 12 Maoists also got killed and about 16 injured in the gun battle with the security forces.
This caused widespread anger in India and clamor has grown in the State of Chhattisgarh that the Central government must go for a decisive operation against the Maoists. The Maoists are trying to run a de facto government in a deep jungle of the Bastar division since the late 1980s.
The Union Home Minister and the Chief Minister both were of the view that time has come to set up more paramilitary camps in Maoists dominated areas and time has come to smoke out Maoists. From their jungle hideout from where they have been launching major attacks on security forces.
Amit Shah visited a CRPF camp in Bijapur and interacted freely with jawans and the Union Home Minister also assured them India’s Central Government is determined to put an end to Maoist militancy forever.
Amit Shah also paid tribute and laid wreaths on the mortal remains of martyred jawans at the Jagdalpur police line. He also visited a private hospital at Raipur to meet injured Jawans.
The Union Home Minister gave a clear message that India would never tolerate such attacks.
