Pakistan will remain in the FATF grey list as decided by Paris -based Financial Action Task Force.
This decision was taken as Pakistan failed to fully implement all the points that were set to be the plan of action in order to curb terror activities.
According to FATF Pakistan has addressed 24 issues out of 27 and has urged Pakistan to quickly complete FATF’s full action plan by June 2021.
Pakistan was placed by FATF in its grey list in June 2018 and was asked to implement some plan of action to stop money laundering and terror financing by the end of 2019 but this deadline was extended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, in the last meeting held in October 2020 FATF kept Pakistan in its grey list till February 2021 as it failed in 6 of its objectives out of 27 including global money laundering and terror financing like Pakistan’s failure to take action against 2 of India’s most wanted terrorists- Jamaat-ud-Dawah head Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar.
