Indian and Chinese tanks were seen disengaging from the south bank of Pangong lake area in eastern Ladakh due to standoff areas along the LAC (Line of Actual Control).
The Indian Army released numerous videos and images today that show the continued process of disengagement between Chinese and Indian forces on both banks of the lake. This is seen as a breakthrough after Indian and Chinese troops were involved in a face-off in this area for nearly a year.
China withdraws about 140 Tanks, 60 Artillery Guns, and 7,000 Troops.
However China will keep its troop presence in north bank of Pangong Lake to the east of Finger 8 and Indian troops will be based at their permanent base at Dhan Singh Thapa Post near Finger 3. The land in-between this will be no man’s land for now as both sides agreeing not to patrol.
According to India’s Defence Minister, once the disengagement has been completed at the lake, military commanders will meet within 48 hours to discuss pull back from other areas.
The Tension between India-China resurfaced in May 2020 with a series of skirmishes in the Pangong Lake region. 20 Indian soldiers died for the country in a physical clash in Galwan Valley on 14th June 2020. There have been numerous rounds of talks to resolve the standoff since.
