Earthquake Of Magnitude 6.9 Hits Greece

On Friday, An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 was reported near Athens, Greece in the evening, according to India’s National Center for Seismology.

The epicentre of the earthquake was 258 km east (E) of Athens, Greece, the agency said. The earthquake struck at 5:21 PM IST at a depth of 52 km from the surface.

Greek public television said the quake also caused a mini-tsunami on the eastern Aegean Sea island of Samos, damaging buildings.

The US Geological Survey said the 7.0 magnitude quake was registered 14 kilometres (8.6 miles) off the Greek town of Karlovasi on Samos.
