Press Release on issuance of Life Certificates and organisation of Consular Camps by the Consulate General of India

Please find attached a Press Release on issuance of Life Certificates and organisation of Consular Camps by the Consulate General of India, Toronto for pensioners. Kindly give wide coverage through your media/channel for the benefit of the Diaspora.

PRESS RELEASE

As you are aware Consulate General of India, Toronto organizes consular camps every year in the month of November to issue Life Certificates to pensioners from India under its consular jurisdiction.

  1. In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the Canadian Government norms which are
    required to be observed e.g. social distancing, restriction on number of people that can gather at any
    establishment, etc , it has been decided that this year the Life Certificates will be issued from October 1,
    2020 to December 31, 2020. The Consulate will issue Life Certificates to pensioners in the following
    manner:
    (i) Through post or mail / courier;
    (ii) Through appointment at the Consulate;
    (iii) Consular camps- to be organized at various locations.
  2. Given the COVID-19 situation and the need to contain the further spread of COVID-19,
    pensioners are requested to avail the Life Certificate service through postal means. Verification in such
    cases will be done through video conference on whatsapp number, which can be provided in the
    application form by the applicant. In case of any urgency, appointment to visit the Consulate may be
    sought by writing an email to: reception.toronto@mea.gov.in. Details of consular camps to be organized
    during October – December 2020 will be notified in due course on Consulate’s website and through
    social media platforms, depending on the evolving COVID-19 situation.
  3. For postal applicants, following documents are to be submitted:
     Duly filled in and signed application form – to be submitted in duplicate.
     Copy of valid Indian/Canadian passport
     Copy of Address proof- driving license or utility bill or any other document issued by Canadian
    Government which shows the residential address of the applicant
     Self addressed prepaid envelope for return of serviced document by the Consulate
     Fee: Gratis
