U.S. Federal Reserve cuts interest rate by half-point due to coronavirus

The U.S. Federal Reserve has cut its benchmark interest rate by a half-point — the most since 2008 — to offset the impact of the coronavirus.

U.S. stocks jumped after the emergency rate cut. The Dow surged 375 points, or 1.4 per cent — it had been down as much as 356 points.
