On Monday, October 9th, Conservative Party of Canada Leader Andrew Scheer and Brampton North Candidate Arpan Khanna had the opportunity to meet with Sikh and Hindu refugees to hear first hand about the persecution of religious minorities in Afghanistan.
These families have made it to New Delhi from Afghanistan, have been classified as refugees by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and are now in the process of private sponsorship to Canada through the Manmeet Singh Bhullar Charitable Foundation.
The stories and graphics were heart-breaking. They are not able to practice their faith, cannot receive basic medical care, daughters and mothers harassed, and many, as we have seen recently, killed.
Andrew Scheer and our Conservative Party of Canada team have met with members of the Sikh and Hindu communities in Canada on this matter as well. Action has been demanded from the Trudeau Government but we have yet to see any progress. We need action.
“This isn’t meant to be a partisan issue – it’s one of the human rights and religious freedoms. It’s about humanity. Canada’s Conservatives will always stand up for those values and continue to champion them on the international stage.” – Arpan Khanna
