Canada India Foundation (CIF) organized a highly successful Award Gala on Saturday 26th April, 2014 at Westin Harbour Castle Hotel, Toronto, Ontario. N.R. Narayana Murthy, Founder and Executive Chairman of Infosys received this prestigious CIF Chanchlani Global Indian Award for the year 2014. Narayana Murthy is the co-founder and currently Executive Chairman of Infosys. Narayana Murthy cofounded Infosys in 1981 with six others software professional, with an initial investment of $250.00. From these humble beginnings, he managed and guided the company to become a multinational corporation and leader of India’s IT revolution. He worked as CEO from 1981 to 2002 and as Chairman from 2002 to 2011. He became Executive Chairman of the Board of Infosys in 2013.
Narayana Murthy is a very simple man and his philosophy is: “Simple Living, High Thinking”. Narayana Murthy is a fantastic role model for all business and technology leaders. After receiving this award, Narayana Murthy spoke to the over 700 eager audiences and said: “The need of the hour is to practice compassionate capitalism.” He further said: “We have not made significant progress in enhancing social capital, concern for the less fortunate, honesty and fairness. As business leaders and as corporate leaders, we have the responsibility to repair this situation. We have to transform the pursuit of “more” to the fulfillment of “better” for all of us. We have to create a world where more and more wealth is created while human dignity is enhanced.”
The event was well organized and sold out, which was attended by senior business executives, corporate heads, professionals, dignitaries, and politicians including Immigration Minister, Chris Alexander, Sports Minister, Bal Gosal and MPP Dipika Damerla. Admiral (Retd) Nirmal Verma, High Commissioner of India in Canada was the guest of honour at this function. Joe Oliver, Minister of Finance, Government of Canada was the chief guest at the CIF Annual Gala.
Canada India Foundation (CIF) was established in 2007, is a national non-profit, non-partisan organization. Its main aim is to foster support for stronger relations between Canada and India. It creates opportunities for greater engagement of the Indo-Canadian community in formulating Canadian public policy and increasing awareness of Canadians of the changing face of India. CIF’s founding members are some of the highly respected business corporate leaders and professionals of top tier. CIF plays a very important role in bilateral relations between India and Canada through regular dialogues with the decision makers of both countries at federal, provincial, municipal and academic level including private sector. CIF takes several initiatives to achieve its objectives by periodic meetings with Canada India Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group, meetings with representatives of political parties at both federal and provincial level. At CIF, they celebrate their adopted land, Canada, and its people, while highlighting the need and opportunities for engaging with the land of origin and ethnic identity, India.
