Farhan urges sexual harassment victims to open up

Mumbai, Nov 8 (IANS) Multi-talented Bollywood celebrity Farhan Akhtar, who is vocal in his support for gender equality, says there is no point in targeting only the film industry for perpetuating sexual harassment as it exists everywhere. However, he urged the victims to come out and talk about it openly.

Farhan, along with film director Feroz Abbas Khan and Poonam Muttreja of the Population Foundation of India (PFI) were here together on Wednesday as a part of the social campaign ‘Bas Ab Bahut Ho Gaya’ that is organising a concert titled ‘Lalkar’ to address the issue of sexual violence against women.

At a time when several women in Hollywood have come forward to voice their experience with sexual harassment in the field, Bollywood has been fairly quiet about it. People have spoken about the casting couch and some women celebrities joined the #MeToo campaign, but not many men have spoken out and women, especially budding actors, who may have even faced it, fear taking names.

IIFA Rocks: Rain spoils green carpet glitz, but show goes on

IIFa 17

New York, July 15 (IANS) The weather god wasn’t kind to the IIFA Rocks gala at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Oscar winning composer-singer A.R. Rahman performed live for fans in the US. But the show went on — and rocked.

Rahman on Friday evening only took the stage for his culminating performance a few hours after the show began, but the audience was kept in high spirits with a few musical performances, banter by the hosts and the distribution of Technical Awards.

The green carpet is one awaited aspect of the annual International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards celebration, which go to different countries every year. But the rain dampened plans.

Speaking is an art: Big B

Mumbai, July 1 (IANS) Megastar Amitabh Bachchan believes that speaking is an art and for him it has been “elusive and distant”.

“Speaking is an art… an art which many have command and control over. How they are able to do so shall always remain a mystery to me,” Amitabh posted on his blog on Friday.

“For me, it has been most elusive and distant and a destination that I have been unable to reach, within my very limited resources — the limited that I do possess. My admiration therefore for them that possess this capacity is immense,” he added.

The 74-year-old, who has returned to India after completing the first schedule of the upcoming film “Thugs Of Hindostan” in Malta, said he always tries to learn how the art of speaking “could be perfected, and have not found very many adequate answers”.

That is why he started writing a blog over nine years ago.

“One of the defaults of that inefficiency is this blog each night or morning at times … what cannot be put into spoken words, is attempted to be written here,” he said.

“Thugs Of Hindostan” also stars Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and “Dangal” fame Fatima Sana Sheikh. The film is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya.
